Anna farms alongside her Dad John on 370 acres (150 hectares) in Mid Wales. It’s a family-run, upland sheep and beef farm with 800 Welsh Mule ewes, 45 cows (Hereford/Friesian crosses and Limousins) and a Charolais bull. They also have a small flock of pedigree Charollais rams, or tups, which are sold as commercial breeding stock.
The farm has been supplying lamb to Waitrose for more than 25 years. All the lambs go straight to the abattoir from the farm.
Anna has just completed her second season of sheepdog trialling. Though a beginner, she works her dog Jill on the farm every day. Anna’s partner Arwyn has represented Wales at the international and world sheepdog trials, and competed in One Man and His Dog as a young handler, so Anna has a great mentor.
Anna runs a small livery yard. There are seven stables in an enclosed, American style barn, an all weather arena, a turn out pen and all year grazing. She grazes the horse paddocks with sheep and the muck from the stables is used throughout the farm on the fields.
